Many newer transmissions no longer have dipsticks to check the fluid and they have to be checked from under the vehicle by removing a fill or level check plug like in the old days with manuel transmissions. Some vehicles like the Ford Explorer, have a plug on the transmission pan that you remove with the engine running, you check and fill the transmission through this one plug
