The following is a list of common symptoms and possible cause that your vehicle's automatic or manual transmission may be having.

Symptom - My transmission is not shifting.

If you car or truck is older like around the early 90's or older it varies by model it may just need a vacuun hose repair, an engine tune-up or a vacuum modulator and not a transmission replacement!

If your car or truck is newer and computer controlled the problem may just be caused by a bad sensor for example a bad vehicle speed sensor (VSS) or a bad throttle sensor (TPS)…….the information from the sensors helps the computer decide whether it should make the transmission shift or not!

Symptom- My automatic transmission shifts hard!

Many things can cause hard shifting, but starting with the basics, check the transmission fluid it may just be a little low! If it's low add the fluid needed and check to see if you have a leaking hose or seal that needs tending to.

Another common reason for hard shifting on newer vehicles is the computer going into fail-safe because of a problem it sees, it can be a small or big one and this will turn the check engine light on most of the time. if this is the case a computer diagnostic check will help you sort it out.
